Letting Go of Self: The Joy of Generous Giving | Fr. David Gunter, MIC
Fr. David Gunter, MIC, reflects on how attachment to the self can become a serious obstacle in our relationship with God. When we become too absorbed in ourselves: our comfort, our interests, our image, or our need for self-protection, we can become unwilling to hear the truth and unable to recognize what Jesus is asking of us. Following Christ requires us to move beyond self-interest and learn the way of generous self-giving. Jesus invites us to let go of what keeps us attached to ourselves, to turn away from evil, and to open our hearts to the needs of others, especially the poor. True love does not treat people as objects or use them for personal gain. Rather, love gives freely and generously. When we surrender ourselves to God and trust in His providence, we discover that His generosity is greater than anything we could hold onto for ourselves. This is at the heart of Christian love: generous self-giving. God calls us not only to give, but to give with joy. Your Misery Is a Magnet for God’s Mercy | Fr. Tyler Mentzer, MIC
In today’s homily, Fr. Tyler Mentzer, MIC, reflects on the heart of St. Peter and what his encounter with Jesus teaches us about our own lives and relationship with God. Peter feels deeply unworthy and overwhelmed by his misery. Like Peter, when we become aware of our weakness, sin, or brokenness, we may be tempted to run away from Jesus. In our darkest moments, we can also fall into the trap of relying on ourselves instead of trusting in the Lord. But our misery is not an obstacle to God’s mercy—it can become a magnet for His mercy when we have the humility to acknowledge it and receive His love. Jesus does not come to condemn us. He comes with love, mercy, kindness, and tenderness, waiting for us to open our hearts to Him even in the middle of chaos, suffering, and pain. The Lord has authority over every tragedy. When we trust in His goodness and allow Him into our hearts, that is where the true victory begins. Trust in the Lord’s kindness. Open your heart to His mercy. Rescuing Souls: The Mission of St. John Vianney | Fr. Anthony Gramlich, MIC
In his homily, Fr. Anthony Gramlich, MIC reflected on the remarkable courage and holiness of St. John Vianney, a priest who dedicated his life to rescuing souls and leading them back to Christ. Through fervent prayer, long hours of Eucharistic adoration, fasting, and personal penance, he interceded for the conversion of the people entrusted to his care. His deep commitment to saving souls was accompanied by intense spiritual trials, reminding us that the closer we draw others to Christ, the greater the spiritual battle can become. St. John Vianney was not an exceptional student. Because much of his seminary formation was taught in Latin, he struggled academically and nearly did not complete his studies. Yet his perseverance, humility, and love for God proved that holiness is measured not by intellectual ability but by fidelity to God's call. May the example of St. John Vianney inspire priests and all the faithful to persevere in prayer, trust in God's mercy, and zealously lead others to Christ. From the Multiplication of Loaves to the Bread of Life | Fr. Tyler Mentzer, MIC
In today's homily, Fr. Tyler Mentzer, MIC, described the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves as a powerful sign of Jesus’ desire to nourish His people. When Jesus fed thousands with only a small amount of bread, He showed that His love and generosity have no limits. This miracle points beyond physical hunger to the deeper hunger of the human soul. Fr. Tyler also connected the multiplication of the loaves with Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and His Resurrection. Jesus endured a brutal death, rose victoriously, and now gives the fruits of His sacrifice to millions of people throughout the world. Just as the bread was multiplied for the crowd, the one sacrifice of Christ continues to nourish humanity through every celebration of the Eucharist. The homily presents the Eucharist as the supreme manifestation of God’s love. Above and beyond, Jesus does not give Himself only to a few people or only for one moment. He gives Himself continually and abundantly to all who come to Him in faith.
